Long Lake Long Boat Regatta

Adirondack Watershed Alliance organizers Brian and Grace McDonnell teamed up with Bob Gibson of Long Lake Recreation to offer the inaugural Long Lake Long Boat Regatta as the final event of the Adirondack Canoe and Kayak Racing Series. The featured events were the “North American War Canoe and C-4 Championships.” The Valley Boys of the Saint Lawrence Valley Paddlers took home the first place trophy with a time of 2:21:49. The C-4 race was won by Team Darryl made up of Kevin Berl, Tim Henning, Bill Miller, and Ray Coloumbe. Their time was 2:33:43.

All events started and finished at the Long Lake Town Beach across the street from the Adirondack Hotel. The 10-mile loop went down the lake to Watch Rock, and the 20-mile loop went down the lake to Island House. The 1-mile novice race was won by Grace, Amelia, and Royal McDonnell, Celia Evans Elsa and Willa Evans - Kummer in their Kevlar Long Boat.

10-mile events included an anything goes category featuring a solo outrigger paddled by Jim Cunningham and a stretched guideboat rowed by John Stephan. The fastest solo kayak was paddled by Dan Murn of Fairport in 1:12:39. Carol & Clyde Yarnell of Alburgh, Vermont paddled the fastest 2 person kayak crossing the finish line at 1:15:29.

The fastest two-person canoe was Bob Murdock of Auburn and Billy Norton of Liverpool with a time of 1:22:18.
