The Fourth annual Adirondack Arc Marathon to Tupper Lake was held Sunday August 17, 2003. Paddlers from as far away as Montana and Maryland came to the Adirondacks to spend the day paddling. Water levels were up and the weather was near perfect contributing to fast times across the field of 81 boats, including solo and tandem canoes, kayaks, guideboats and 6-8 person war canoes entered in the event. Marc Gillespie and Paul Olney set a new course record at 3:24:46 in a two - man kayak.

The Arc Marathon was the final New York Marathon Canoe Association Points Series Race. Many of the top canoe and kayak paddlers from across the state participated in the event.

The Adirondack Arc is the named sponsor. The Arc is a non profit family centered organization that enriches the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Members of the Arc community volunteered in
all aspects of the organization of the race. Other sponsors include The Tupper Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, MAC'S Canoe Livery, Grasse River Boatworks, Cold River Coffee Company, Ace Kayaks, Lake Placid Pub & Brewery and Wenonah Canoes.

The course: The start line was at the NYSDEC Saranac Inn Boat launch on Upper Saranac Lake. Paddlers went the length of the lake past Green Island, Buck Island, the narrows, Eagle Island, Deer Island, and Chapel Island before taking out at the 1.25 mile Indian Carry. Paddlers went straight across Stoney Creek Ponds, and down Stoney Creek. Stoney Creek flows into the Raquette River. Paddlers turned right, and proceeded down stream all the way to Tupper Lake and the finish line at the Tupper
Lake Rod and Gun Club on Simond Pond.
Many paddlers use the race as a warm up to the Adirondack Canoe Classic, the 90 mile canoe race from Old Forge to Saranac Lake, September 5 - 7, 2003.
