LONG LAKE - Hosted by Long Lake Recreation and the Adirondack Watershed Alliance, the third annual Long Lake Long Boat Regatta drew 39 boats Saturday.
The regatta featured several events: The 20-mile North American Voyageur and C-4 Championships, 10-mile Adirondack Kayak Championships and a 3-mile race for novices and beginners. Solo and tandem canoes also raced in a 10-mile event.
In the voyageur canoe race, New York Marathon Canoe Racing Association President Roger Henry's team finished first overall with a time of one hour, fifty-three minutes and fifty-three seconds. Lake Clear resident and race organizer Brian McDonnell and his team took second overall and first in the men's division in 1:55:22.
The Adirondack Women's voyageur canoe team, captained by Grace McDonnell of MAC'S Canoe Livery, took first in 2:07:21. The women's Kahnawake team was second, finishing in 2:19:27.
Heuvelton resident Kerry Newell's team had the fastest time in the C-4 race with a time of 2:13:49, while Mary Houck, of Clinton, and crew took second in 2:14:58.
Rochester resident Paul Tomblin took first in the 3-mile race in 22:08, while Tom Murn of Fairport came in second in 23:33.
The event also featured the first annual Adirondack Kayak Championships. In the men's touring kayak division, Pittsford resident Doug Roode took first in 1:13:27. Rochester resident Michael Finear took second in 1:13:40. In the women's division, Carol Trentelman, Lawrenceville, finished first in 1:19:21. Coming in second was Roxanne Miller, of Cato, with a time of 1:20:15.
In the unlimited kayak division, Peter Kahn, of Charlotte, Vt., finished first in 1:06:50. Dan Murn, of Fairport, took second in 1:09:40. The tandem kayak division was won by Clyde and Carol Yarnell of Alburg, Vt. in a time of 1:09:44. Second place went to Charles Sumner and Dianne Camara of Worcester, Mass. There time was 1:33:52.
Lake Clear residents Chas Billingsley and Diana McIsaac lead the C-2 Stock Class with a finish time of 1:17:25 for the 10 mile course.
The Long Boat Regatta is the final event of the season organized by the Adirondack Watershed Alliance. Sponsors for the event included Long Lake Recreation, The Central Adirondack Association, Wenonah Canoes, Campmor, and MAC'S Canoe Livery.
