TRADITIONAL:
Length:
11 - 23 feet (15 to 17
standard)
Beam: 32 - 44 inches (Outside measurement: 34 to 38
inches is standard)
Bottom
Board Outside Width: 4 - 10 inches.
Stem
Height: 20 - 26 inches.
Depth
Amidships: 11 -
13 inches.
Construction: 3/16 or 1/4 inch pine or cedar planking (7 - 9 /
side), with beveled overlap, creating a smooth skinned hull: lapped/feathered
edges. Ribs and stems are sawn from
natural spruce or tamarack root crooks, ribs spaced approximately 6 inches
apart. Wood deck and gunwales.
Seats: Fixed solid wood or wood framed cane seats in
bow and stern, middle seat removable
Oars: Solid wood oars, maximum 8 foot length, 5 1/2
inches wide.
Hardware: Brass, bronze, or steel pins with 1/2 inch diameter
hole to accept pin; may be bushed if out of round.
Paddle:
Solid wood paddle, maximum
length 6 foot; maximum width 5 inches.
Yoke: Wooden carry yoke
Use of
wheels is
not permitted in the Traditional Guideboat Class specifically in the Hanmer
Boat races.
Footbraces
are acceptable only if
removable; they may not be secured to the boat with screws, nails, glue, etc.
NOTE: Old traditional boats may be fiberglass or poly
covered.

Hardware: Brass, bronze, or aluminum pins.
Footbraces: must be secured to the boat.
UNACCEPTABLE for either Traditional or Modern
Guideboats:

Roller, ball or needle bearings
in hardware.

Outriggers.
·
Boats of design and or
construction with pulled- in beams / ends.
·
Paddles and oars with bent blades
or shafts, cupped or spooned blades.
NOTE: Traditional and
Modern Guideboats will compete in the same class.
